GMB is a tool by Google to help business owners to manage, how their business appears on Google search results and Google Map display. With GMB you can claim your local business listing on Google and you can add details like

Why it is important to create a GMB listing of your business?

Anyone can enter your business name and register it with Google. Doing so will make a Google My Business profile for your business begin appearing in the Google Search and Google Map results. Would you rather be the person managing your listing rather than some random person? If your business is already listed, you can claim its ownership. A well-optimized GMB listing allows you to display useful business information to searchers such as business hours, where you’re located, driving directions and a lot more to increase your overall online presence. When your business is listed using GMB, now you can do business analysing such as

  • How your customers search for your business
  •  What keyword they use to find your business
  • How your customers interact with your listing and many more

Setting up “Google My Business” and get your Business Listed on Google

Step One: Visit Google official website

Visit the following website of Google: www.google.com/business Click on the ‘Manage Now’ button. If you’re not signed into Gmail, it will ask you to sign in. Be sure you sign into the Gmail account you are associated with your business.

Step Two:  Setting the Name of your Business

Once you are logged in, if you have not set up a listing in the past, it will ask you to enter the name of your business. Go ahead and type it in. If someone has already listed you on Google then you should see your listing appear. If your business doesn’t appear, click the result that has the text under your business name that says “Create a business with this name” as shown in below snapshot. Then click next.

Step Three: Categorize your business

When you set your “categories” you will have two options of categories – primary and secondary categories. Setting up this step is very vital, to display your business on Google search results pages when your potential customers are searching for the services or products your offer. Select the category that best suits for your business and then, click Next.

Step Four:  Adding your Business Location

If you have a store or office where your customers can visit, Then select Yes. If you select Yes, then enter the following address details and then click Next. When you have a physical office / Store for your business then you need to set your business location on a map. You may have to drag the marker to the exact location on the map that your business exists. Simply place your marker where it should go on the map and then press the “Next” If you have selected ‘No’ in step 4, then it will ask you to list your service areas (this step is optional), then click “Next”. Now you need to specify the region, where your business is located.

Step Five: Enter your Contact Details

Enter your contact details, and then click Next.

Step Six: Finish and Verify your Listing

Next, you have to verify your business and it takes a couple of days, meanwhile, You can optimize your listing

Step Seven: Verify My Business listing

Depending on the type of business listing, Google verifies your business with the below options

  • Verify by mail (postcard)
  •  Verify by phone
  • Verify by email
  • Instant verification
  • Bulk verification

For most of the business listings, Google verifies by postcard method. You have to wait for the postcard to be mailed by Google with the certificate code on it. To complete the verification process, it may take up to 12 days of time.
